Clinical Counselling Therapist
Doug is a Registered Counselling Therapist with the PEI College of Counselling Therapists (CCTPEI #101), as well as a long standing member of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA #13129), a member of the Atlantic Mentorship Network, a Therapeutic Riding Instructor with CanTra Canada, an Equine Facilitated Psychotherapist, a member of the Canadian EMDR association (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) and a Level 3 trained Deep Brain Reorientation (DBR) practitioner. Prior to the influence of COVID, he was also a Registered Counselling Therapist in NS, as well as a Canadian Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist (VRA Canada).
Doug received his undergraduate in Psychology from UPEI, while continuing to work in the field of business. His passion for workplace mental health needs was what eventually took him back to school to complete his Masters in Counselling Psychology from the University of British Columbia, as well as a Post Baccalaureate in Chronic Pain Medicine from the University of Alberta. His experiences and scope of practice include working with Veterans as they transitioned from military careers to civilian careers, individuals living with emotional injuries from the fields of Nursing, EMT, Dispatchers, RCMP, as well as First Nations. He has expanded his training to include working with individuals living with multiple disabilities, people living with Neurodivergence, Vocational rehabilitation psychology, as well as complex PTSD Trauma (EMDR)(DBR). Doug has been a lifetime advocate for people striving for an overall life balance in their professional as well as their personal lives. He enjoys his work, but also his volunteer time working with children with needs as a Level 1 certified riding instructor, as well as being a handyman on his mini farm.
